David Howell was born in 1939, and having lived for many years in the Middle East he is now based in Yorkshire. Painting in watercolour, oils and pastels, his subject matter mainly includes landscape and marine with occasional equestrian racing and shooting pictures. David’s approach to painting is very much concerned with capturing atmosphere and a sense of time and place, but above all he is concerned with producing good paintings rather than topographical accuracy. David travels widely to source the perfect subject, preferring to work en plein air where possible and is just as likely to be found sketching by a canal in Venice as dragging an easel through an Arabian desert.
