Marc Thouy was born in 1946 in the South of France where he still lives and works. From a young age Marc Thouy was determined to be an artist and became a stage set painter at the age of 18 whilst continuing to aspire to life as a professional artist.
As a young man he was greatly influenced by the work of Rembrandt and Rubens and was fascinated by their use of light but his greatest passion was impressionism and he particularly admired Manet.
Working in oil on canvas Marc Thouy has continued to perfect his art over the years and is now widely known for his beautifully lit still life works which cleverly combine a degree of detail with an impressionistic touch.
Marc Thouy has achieved great success in many countries around the world including France, Germany, Canada, Holland and Sweden.
If approaching the gallery from Penrith or the M6 heading East on the A66 there is a major diversion in place to the gallery via Motherby. Instead of this we would recommend taking the first turning right to Newbiggin shortly after the Rheged roundabout, follow the road through the village and then turn left as you come out of the village. Follow the road up the hill past the recycling centre and turn right at the bend where you will see our brown tourist board sign, follow the lane and signs to the gallery. Altenatively take B5288 from Penrith to Greystoke turning left left to the gallery less than a quarter of a mile out of Greystoke.
Otherwise please follow the diversion signs on the A66 - they will successfully get you here but it will take 10 minutes longer.
OPEN EVERY DAY
