Self taught, landscape artist Ged Mitchell, was born in Manchester in 1956 and is now based in Cheshire. He began painting for the first time in 1979 and it quickly became his passion. This was eventually matched by a healthy interest and demand for his watercolours by the general public and local galleries, culminating in a life changing decision to become a professional artist in 1985. What started as a long and at times challenging journey has resulted in a successful and rewarding career doing what he loves most with work in collections throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. His preferred medium is watercolour, but he also works in acrylic on canvas. Silver birch trees have been a great inspiration since the early days and continue to feature today, becoming something of a "trade mark". He also enjoys painting the beautiful landscapes of the Lake District. In1992 Ged tried his hand at running his own art gallery but the demands of the gallery left very little or no time to paint, so in 1998 made the decision to return to painting full time. Fine Art publishers have publishing several images as limited edition prints and greetings cards, quickly establishing him as a firm favourite with some major galleries in the UK and abroad.
If approaching the gallery from Penrith or the M6 heading East on the A66 there is a major diversion in place to the gallery via Motherby. Instead of this we would recommend taking the first turning right to Newbiggin shortly after the Rheged roundabout, follow the road through the village and then turn left as you come out of the village. Follow the road up the hill past the recycling centre and turn right at the bend where you will see our brown tourist board sign, follow the lane and signs to the gallery. Altenatively take B5288 from Penrith to Greystoke turning left left to the gallery less than a quarter of a mile out of Greystoke.
Otherwise please follow the diversion signs on the A66 - they will successfully get you here but it will take 10 minutes longer.
