George Busby

1926 - 2005

From 1926 until his death in 2005, George Busby lived in the West Midlands.  George had been a highly respected artist and a graphic designer for most of his life, initially studying at the Birmingham College of Art.  His distinctive ink and wash technique was instantly recognisable.  The farm buildings and varied landscapes of the Lake District and the architecture he drew when regularly visiting Italy were his favourite subjects.
George Busby was a regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries in London and his work is represented in the permanent collection of the National Library of Wales, and in numerous private collections including royal collections throughout the UK and many other countries.
He was commissioned to illustrate numerous calendars for Courage Breweries, Abbey National Building Society, Amoco Oil Company and in addition to his usual architectural and industrial illustration, he completed a series of calendars featuring endangered species of wildlife.
George Busby was a member of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, the Society of Graphic Artists and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
An artist of the utmost ability who was truly committed to recording the social history of our towns, cities and villages.
