Margie Johnson has been a constant exhibitor at Beckstones Art Gallery for over ten years. Born in London in 1949, Margie Johnson grew up in Basutoland (Lesotho) in an artistic environment (both her father and sister were artists). After school in Bloemfontein, South Africa, where she concentrated on art, she went on to study Graphic Artist Design in Cape Town 1966-1970, followed by working as a Graphic Designer. Having previously taught ceramics, Margie Johnson now holds classes teaching art to experienced artists in Cape Town where she has her own studios, and also runs workshops and lectures to the South African Society of Artists and the Western Cape Watercolour Society. She has exhibited extensively in South Africa as well as in New York. Margie Johnson’s main media are watercolour and oils, and she has an unswerving belief in the need for basic drawing and painting skills. Her usual subject matter includes still life (mainly watercolour) and landscapes (oils).
