| Clive McCartney |
| Clive McCartney has been a regular contributor with Beckstones Art Gallery for around ten years. Born in India in 1960, Clive McCartney received his art education at the Central School of Art and the Chelsea College of Art in London, achieving a Fine Arts Degree in Painting with distinction. Between 1989 and 1994 Clive McCartney taught at Dulwich College, was Artist-in-Residence at Sutton Valence, Kent and Lecturer in Life drawing at Brighton University. “I have been painting for as long as I can remember. It is as natural to me as breathing, and I want my work to look like that. A relentless pursuit of alignment – to be painting when that “natural” moment occurs, so that the colour, the tone, the line almost breathes onto the flat surface, and one can practically inhale the space that the painted light creates.” Clive McCartney’s choice of subject-matter covers a wide range of cities and countries, from cafes in Venice or bistros in Paris to the skyline of New York, plazas and piazzas in European cities to distant or more exotic venues. His paintings are about the contrast of light and darkness and the gradation of tone. He paints in acrylic on board. Clive McCartney has had 6 London One-man Exhibitions, and numerous London Group Exhibitions. His work has been featured in several national publications and is widely collected. |
